Moving from the city to the suburbs

Tag Archives: country club plaza

Apparently Kansas City is a hot ticket city right now. Last week, I gushed over IKEA’s opening in September. Little did I know at the time though that West Elm just opened a store on The Plaza!

Two of my favorite home shopping destinations from Chicago = a lot of excitement to start finishing those interior design projects at our house that I never started. Oh ya, because I had babies. Two of them. A dining room table is at the top of my list at the moment along with an ottoman for our living room. Although, I’m starting to lose hope on that search…

One thing I didn’t know about West Elm is how many local designers they feature at their stores. I haven’t been to the store yet, but at their opening last week, everyone was raving about Ampersand Design (already a favorite of mine), Happy Habitat, Hammerpress and Ruff House Art on Twitter and Instagram. And I can’t blame them. Check out these goods from the store (photos via the West Elm Front + Main blog):

Right now West Elm KC is offering a 15% off offer on Facebook, so snatch it up while it lasts and report back on your #westelmlocal finds!

This weekend was beautiful – not only was the weather perfect, but I got mostly everything done that I wanted to do (for once)! On Friday, I went up to the Plaza Art Fair. It was my first time there and it reminded me so much of the Old Town Art Fair that I loved going to every year in Chicago . Kind of a big deal in my head. Festivals are one thing about Chicago summers that I have missed the most this year, but this gave a little piece of my heart back.

Beer. Food tents. Crowds. Mini Sangria Pitchers. Art. Live Music. What more could you ask for?

I’ve been a bit obsessed with Dolan Geiman‘s mixed media work since I saw his art for the first time at the Old Town Art Fair a few years ago. I purchased two pieces that are still at my condo in Chicago right now (grr…) and of course, do I have any photos of them? No.

His Virginia Den Collection deer has been on my list for awhile. I actually think this was one of my first pins on Pinterest (back in the day).

You can check out more of Dolan’s work on his website, Etsy, Facebook and Twitter.

More to come on the rest of the weekend later!

fashions night out kansas city

Well, I’m only what, two weeks late on this event? How do bloggers do NYFW? That’s what I want to know. I was there for two days and felt overwhelmed with photos and post ideas. So much so, that I put it off. Well! Here’s to learning from mistakes right?

I went to Fashion’s Night Out on the The Plaza on Sept. 6. I wanted to get down there early, but unfortunately work took longer than I expected that night and I didn’t make it there until about 8 p.m. I really wanted to meet so many of the bloggers I’ve been reading since I’ve moved to town like Chasing Davies, Louise in Leopard, Simply Bold, Pretty Polished Perfect, Kimberly Loc, Mimi and Chi Chi and Your Style Scout – but I was just too late! I did get to see some of their fabulous styled outfits at Halls KC though! Great job ladies! Here’s a couple looks I saw first hand (sorry for the blurred text):

I also loved this look on display. Wait, is that an oxblood leather jacket 🙂 ?

The good news? I finally ran into my friend Monica of Finer Feelings! I’m an idiot for not grabbing a photo of the two of us, but I was just so excited to see her that it slipped my mind. If you haven’t discovered her blog yet, go now! And I don’t send away readers lightly 🙂

Over at Standard Style I tried on a few things, but just couldn’t find the right fit.

Finally, I hit up J. Crew. Although it was definitely the most quiet of the stores I went to that night, it was the one place I found the perfect thing to buy: a new leopard iPhone case. Let’s not kid ourselves, I can always find a reason to indulge in a tech accessory. I couldn’t find a link to this specific case, but here’s a similar version.

On my way to my car, I also spotted the new Boulevard Brewery pop-up gift shop which is rumored to be opening later this fall for the holidays! Can’t wait to hear more about this.

Overall, I’d say it was a successful first Fashion’s Night Out in Kansas City. Can’t wait to see what KC has in store for future fashion events! And hopefully, I won’t miss all the networking fun next time, too.
