It seems there is a new fashion app coming out every week nowadays to make shopping and style spotting even easier – and I mean that in the best way possible. A few tools have caught my eye recently and it’s exciting to see how shopping is evolving with new technology. Oh, and did I mention some of these have some kick-ass, smart female founders? Here are a few on my radar right now:
Do you wish that expensive coat you’ve been lusting after was on sale? Co-founders and former buyers at J.Crew, Erica Bell and Katie Finnegan, developed a way to tell you the minute that coat drops in price! Hukkster is a browser bookmarklet (like Pinterest’s “pin it” button). When you find a product you love, (say on bloomingdales.com), you simply “hukk it” and you’ll receive a notification by email or text when the price on that specific item drops. Genius, right? I just signed up and am testing it out now. I’ll let you know if it’s a keeper, but I have a feeling it’s a new fashion staple. Here’s a quick video explaining how it works:
My friend Kerry recently got me hooked to this iPhone app which allows users to buy and sell clothing. Sure you could do this on E-bay or in person at Plato’s Closet, but this app is uber-simple and has some social components built right into the app . PLUS, Poshmark handles all the transactions and shipping! It’s a great way to constantly refresh your closet and get brand-name, gently-used items at bargain prices. You can visit my Poshmark closet here or by clicking the icon on the right-hand sidebar on my blog 🙂 I’m always adding new items, so if you don’t see something you like, check back again soon.
Okay this one is not new, but I definitely have a new found love for it! Who can keep track of all their favorite blogs and visit them every day? Not me. Unless you subscribe via email to every one (that’s a lot of email), it’s hard to keep up with all the great blogs out there. Enter Bloglovin, a reader that allows you to follow your favorite blogs and browse through posts all in one place. View it online or on your iPhone!
Snapette is a location-based mobile shopping app for finding and sharing fashion products in stores near you. You can browse photos posted by other users as well as brands and retailers. There are a million online shopping resources, but the unique part about Snapette is that is allows you to see what is at your local Forever21 store or Nordstrom Rack. The app was launched by Harvard alumni Sarah Paiji and Jinhee Ahn Kim in 2011 and most recently has tapped actress Emma Roberts as its new fashion adviser. I’ve dabbled a little bit in this app and it has great potential. It definitely needs more users and local shops in smaller cities (Like Kansas City) sharing great photos in order to for it to become really powerful – which is where you come in : )
What are your favorite fashion-focused tools/apps?
