Since moving to Kansas City this summer, I have been exchanging some tweets with local bloggers and fellow social media obsession-ists like myself. One such lovely lady I not-so-secretly web-stalked earlier this summer and ta-da, I met Kimberly Loc, a local lifestyle and beauty blogger. Kimberly was sweet enough to invite me to her Fashionistas on a Mission event this past Saturday which she co-hosted with Jess from Mimi and Chichi at The Garment District Boutique. The shopping event raised money for Rose Brooks Center, a domestic violence shelter for women and children in Kansas City. I have a soft spot for local charities, so I was more than happy to stop by to support the cause.
It was a little scary going to an event where I knew no one (well in real life anyway). I may have changed my outfit twice and laughed a little too loud in classic “Jen is nervous” fashion, but I’m SO happy I went. Everyone was very friendly and I had a great time re-discovering downtown Kansas City shopping.
While munching on yummy macaroons, I spotted this fun antler display of rings. I have been dying to do my own DIY version to either hang or showcase jewelry for awhile now and this only makes me want one more! I also tried Kansas Whiskey for the first time. As one of the sponsors, they were serving up delicious cocktails. Although I’m not a whiskey drinker, I must say it was very smooth and different than I expected (in a good way). The Garment District Boutique is such a fun, unique destination for shopping. It has a bar right in the middle of the store, perfect for grabbing a drink while browsing around.
I had the pleasure of also chatting with Jana Meister of Style Your Life Fashion Consulting, a local business owner, personal stylist and closet consultant extraordinaire. Her Facebook page is filled with fun fashion tips and advice to check out!
Of course, I was in such a hurry to get to my niece (who also happens to be my goddaughter)’s birthday party that I forgot to buy a necklace I was lusting after during the party. Oh well, guess that means I have a reason to go back soon!
